The Gol Gumbaz Near Solapur

The Gol Gumbaz is a part of the village of Bijapur and it is a hundred kilometers away from Solapur city. It has a prominent place in the ancient cultural history of India due to its architectural significance. Gumbaz can be literally translated to a ‘Rose Dome’ and it draws its reference from the lotus and rose petals, which surrounds the base of the dome. This gives it a look of a budding flower itself.  Gol Gumbaz is basically a mausoleum and it is built in 1656 in the memory of Mohammed Adil Shah, the then Sultan of Bijapur. The Asar Mahal

The Asar Mahal, which was constructed in 1646 under the guidance of Mohammed Adil Shah, served as the Hall of Justice for the reigning kingdom then. Asar Mahal, besides the hall of justice is famous as the unique place that preserves the hair of the prophet’s beard.  The monument, which dates back nearly three and half centuries back, is very exquisitely made with fine attention paid to every little detail. Amazing frescoes painting adorn the upper storey of the building.

The festival of Urs is celebrated every year at this place, but the building is not allowed for women. The front porch of Azar Malah is home to a square tank. Among the three large tanks places here, the largest one is nearly 15 feet deep. The other two tanks have same dimensions. There is the remains of the old mosque on the top of a citadel wall behind the historic monument of the Asar Mahal. The mosque is built in stone with plenty inscriptions on them. The mosque has a grand entrance. The archeological Survey of India currently maintains the Asar Mahal.

Indra Bhawan

Indra Bhawan was built a century back in 1907 by Late Shri Appasaheb Varad. It is a three storeyed building and Solapur Municipal Corporation is responsible for the maintenance of this building now. You can visit this place in between 11 am to 6 pm in all days.
